Never Be Afraid to Ask

My mom has taught me a lot of things throughout my life. One of her favorite sayings is “Never be afraid to ask. The worst they can tell you is no.” That piece of advice has gotten me so many things throughout my life. So many opportunities get missed because people just don’t ask about them. Stop and really think about that for a minute. Think about all the opportunities that could be available if you simply asked. If my husband hadn’t asked about a broiler farm we saw for sale we might not would have considered becoming farmers. If I hadn’t started cold calling integrators to ask if they were accepting new growers we never would have found our integrator. If I hadn’t reached out to banks to ask about financing we never would have found our bank. Never be scared to ask about something, because honestly the worst answer you can get is no. Trust me, we received a lot of no’s before we finally found our yeses. Asking about something doesn’t mean you are stupid. Asking about something shows you are interested and trying to learn. Never be intimidated by anyone or anything. Remember everyone has to start out somewhere. When we first began our journey we were living in a falling down two bedroom one bath trailer house, barely making ends meet. I remember thinking there was no way we would ever be able to get our farm, but I still reached out to the integrators and banks to ask. And by asking we took a step towards accomplishing our dream. It amazes me how our life could have went a completely different direction if we had been too afraid to ask. Asking has the ability to change your life.
